Seiko · ref SKX007 · 1996–2019
Ask a room of watch people about their first mechanical diver and someone will say SKX007. Seiko launched it in 1996 as the successor to the 7002 and kept making it until 2019, so there are a lot of them out there. It's a 200m diver about 42.5mm across, with 22mm lugs, a screw-down crown at 4 o'clock and a 120-click bezel that turns one way. Inside is the 7S26, a 21-jewel automatic at 21,600 beats an hour that doesn't hand-wind or hack, which is normal for this watch. Asking prices climbed after it was dropped, partly because the Seiko 5 Sports models that took over the look gave up the screw-down crown and the 200m rating. The SKX007 is also one of the most modified watches around, so if you want a stock one, check the dial, hands, bezel insert and crystal against factory photos. J versions, with Made in Japan and 21 Jewels on the dial, are a little scarcer than the K versions.
The biggest risk is a modified watch listed as original, since aftermarket dials, hands, bezel inserts and crystals are everywhere. Bezels that don't line up exactly at 12 are a known Seiko complaint, and a 7S26 that's gone years without a service can drift well off time.
Buying guide
For a stock SKX007 to wear, we'd start with the one on a Jubilee bracelet with its box at $429 delivered, or pay about $30 more for the US watch titled with a recent service. There are about 124 for sale and most complete ones ask $370–625 delivered, with Japan-listed watches near the top once $50–125 shipping is added. This is one of the most modified watches around, so compare the dial, hands and bezel insert with factory photos, check that the caseback reads 7S26-0020, and check the seller's feedback and return policy on the item page, since eBay's search cards don't show them. Skip the $1,054 SKX007J on an aftermarket MiLTAT bracelet, which asks over $400 more than the top of the band.
$231.68est. delivered
The cheapest SKX007 you can buy outright, at $232 delivered from a US seller and well under the $370–625 band. The title says nothing about running or originality, so ask for a timing video and a caseback photo before you offer.

$457.99est. delivered
Titled with a recent service, which is the work an older 7S26 usually needs, for $458 delivered. The seller calls the aged dial and lume wabi patina, so make sure that's the look you want.
Seiko SKX007 7S26-0020 Original Vintage Diver Recent Service Wabi Patina
$218.64est. delivered
A "21J" dial marks the J version that turns up less often, and the seller titles the case and movement original. It's an auction with no bids at $219 delivered, so it will climb; we'd stop around $550, since a fixed-price SKX007J on eBay asks $711.
Vintage SEIKO diver SKX007 Genuine 7S26-0020 case All Original movt & "21J" dial
$251.50est. delivered
Titled a project to fix at $252 delivered, about $120 under the bottom of the band. The title doesn't say what's wrong, so ask before you bid, and plan on a service on top.
