The SARB033 was a Japan-market Seiko Mechanical from the Spirit line, released in 2008 alongside the off-white SARB035, and Seiko announced the end of both in 2018. It earned its following by looking and feeling like a Grand Seiko for far less money, and Monochrome called it a Grand Seiko without the Grand. The case is 38mm across and about 11mm thick, brushed on top with polished sides, with a sapphire crystal over the dial and a Hardlex display back. The black dial has rectangular applied markers with lume tips, polished dauphine hands and a date at 3 o'clock. Inside is the 6R15, a step up from Seiko's 7S and 4R movements, with 23 jewels, about 50 hours of reserve, hacking and hand winding. It dresses up on leather and works as a sports watch on its bracelet. Since it's out of production, buying one means buying used, so condition and a complete bracelet decide which one to pick.
Early 6R15A and 6R15B movements had problems Seiko later improved, so a later-letter movement is a small plus. The Hardlex display back scratches more easily than the sapphire front.
