Casio · ref DW-6300 · 1993–1995
The DW-6300 is where the Frogman started. Casio released it in 1993 as the first G-Shock certified to the ISO 6425 diver's standard, in a big asymmetric case, and it became the first official model in the Master of G line of specialist G-Shocks. Shockbase lists six versions made from 1993 to 1995. It runs module 1084 with a small micro light, from just before G-Shock moved to EL backlights. The Frogman has long been made in Japan and is still one of the most collected G-Shock lines. In 2023 Casio Japan ran a limited restoration service for first-generation DW-6300s that replaced the bezel, band, battery and screws. Even Casio wouldn't guarantee the 200m rating after that work, which is a good guide for any original you buy. Treat it as a collector's piece to wear on dry land, and buy a modern Frogman if you actually want to dive with one.
Resin from the early 1990s is often cracked or already replaced. Old gaskets can't be trusted to keep water out, and a battery left inside for years can leak and corrode the module.
Buying guide
Buy a first-generation DW-6300 titled tested or with a new battery, which ask $176–352 delivered, and treat it as a dry-land watch. There are about 108 listed, most at $230–650 delivered and nearly all from Japan, and the ask climbs for the -1C and B-8 versions and for original bezels and bands. Read DW-6300 and module 1084 on the caseback, ask whether the bezel and band are original or restored, since Casio's 2023 restoration fitted -1A colored parts, and check the seller's feedback and return policy on the item page. Several cheaper ones are titled junk or missing the bezel, and we'd skip the $972 yellow -9, about $320 over the band.
