Casio · ref AE-1200WH-1A · c. 2010–present
The AE-1200 is the real Casio Royale. G-Central traces the nickname to its resemblance to the Seiko G757 seen in the 1983 Bond film Octopussy, and the steel-bracelet AE-1200WHD plays up the likeness most. G-Central dates its first release to 2010, though other guides say 2012. Module 3299 packs in a lot. You get the time in four cities at once, world time across 48 cities and 31 time zones plus UTC, five alarms, a 1/100-second stopwatch and a countdown timer, all around a little world map on the display. It's rated to 100 meters, unlike the splash-resistant F-91W and A-series digitals, and the CR2025 battery is rated for about ten years. At 42.1mm wide it wears about like a G-Shock square. Pick the resin AE-1200WH for a beater or the WHD if you want the Bond look.
The resin bezel scuffs and the strap cracks with age. The light is an amber LED with a short 1.5 or 3 second glow, a lot less than a G-Shock's full-screen backlight.
Buying guide
Buy this one new. US sellers ask $33–45 delivered for a new AE-1200, and used ones from US sellers ask $32–55, so a used one only makes sense at the very bottom of that. There are about 86 listed, most at $35–55 delivered, and a few Japan resellers add $60 shipping that takes the same watch past $130. Read module 3299 on the caseback in the photos, make sure every segment of the world map shows, check that the photos match the WH or WHD the title names, and check the seller's feedback and return policy on the item page.
