Casio · ref A168WA-1
The A168 is the F-91W's dressier cousin. It has the same basic set of functions, but in a chrome-plated case on a stainless steel bracelet, and it swaps the F-91W's small side light for an electroluminescent panel that lights the whole screen. That EL panel is why the case is a little thicker. Inside is module 3298, with a 1/100-second stopwatch, a daily alarm, an hourly chime and a CR2016 battery that Casio rates for about seven years. It sits in Casio's Vintage line, and the silver A168WA-1 has been joined by a gold A168WG-9 and a run of black and gunmetal versions. The case is resin under the plating, which keeps it light at about 49 grams. It's only rated Water Resistant, so keep it out of the pool. A used one is worth it for a color Casio no longer sells, or when the bracelet is already sized for you.
Casio's own manual warns that the EL backlight loses brightness after very long use. The chrome plating over the resin case can scuff through at the corners, and the bracelet's clasp and links take the most wear.
Buying guide
Buy a used silver A168WA from a US seller, where $30 to $50 delivered gets you one, and the $50 one with its box and manual is our pick. There are about 180 listed, but most of the search is Japan resellers asking $90–212 delivered, which is why the overall band reads $65–150. Read module 3298 on the caseback, ask for a photo with the EL light on, zoom in on the case corners and clasp for worn plating, and check the seller's feedback and return policy on the item page. Skip the $212 A168WA-1A2WJR from Japan, about $60 over the band with $40 shipping and nothing in the title to explain it.
